The Timetable That Slipped-

English 原文
Rows of plastic chairs stretched in straight lines, their metal legs touching the tiled floor with faint scratches. Cold air drifted from ceiling vents; fluorescent tubes hummed above, casting pale stripes across varnished desks. At the back, Marco rolled a large timetable under his arm while Lina balanced an old wall clock against her hip. They had been asked earlier to finish the arrangement before the supervisor arrived, and both accepted the task without speaking. The empty exam hall granted them space but no advice; footsteps echoed as they moved toward the front board. Chalk dust clung to the frame, and a narrow strip of unused wall waited between two notice rails.
Marco unrolled the timetable and pressed its corners against the smooth paint. The sheet refused to stay. Each time he lifted a hand to reach for tape, a corner curled back on itself. His shoulders tightened, and he kept a tenacious grip on the top edge while Lina tore short strips from the roll. Lina’s fingers stayed tense as she bent the tape, yet the glue lost interest in the wall after touching it. After three trials, only three corners held while the fourth dangled like a loose flag. A small draft slipped under the doors, rippling the paper and pulling the weak corner free again.
Lina examined the failed corner and fetched two metal binder clips from her backpack. Working the unfamiliar spring offered her a brief learning curve; the first clip snapped shut before she placed it, sending a sharp click around the room. On the second attempt, she hooked the clip over the wooden rail. The paper still sagged, and the clock waited on a chair, unused. Marco pressed a thumbtack with tenacious pressure, and the tack finally pierced the paint. At that moment, the timetable slid sideways, exposing an outdated schedule hidden beneath it. The crumpled paper lay half-pinned beside the clock, quiet under the fluorescent light.
