English 原文
Splinters pricked Dawn's palms as she pressed the rough wooden frame. A wet canvas sheet clung across the frame like a tired flag, and she wanted to pull it down before nightfall. At dusk the wind arrived from the open field, lifting one edge while the soaked middle refused to move. Gravity held five buckets along the bottom bar and the wind tugged upward, two opposite pressures in noisy argument. Dawn tried the direct way first. She knelt, loosened one bucket, and pulled the fabric straight toward herself. The wind answered with a fresh flutter, flipping the freed corner back over her head. Mud splashed, and the sheet stayed where it was. She paused then, the kind of pause that lets you gather your thoughts after climbing a hill, and wiped grit from her sleeves.
The pause offered a thin moment of understanding: the wind wanted the sheet, but the buckets chained it down. If one weight slipped, gusts could do the lifting for her. Another lull let the wind take a break between two long breaths, so she tipped the lightest bucket and poured its water onto the grass. When the next gust arrived, she guided the loosened corner toward the sky instead of against it. The wind seized the canvas and spun it over the frame, dragging the other buckets in a rattling dance. The buckets thudded against the posts, the sheet finally tore free, and the sudden release flung a spray that soaked Dawn’s boots. The wind carried the canvas across the yard and dropped it into a thorny hedge. Dawn watched leaves scatter over the grass, then turned toward the silent shed where a faint pine scent drifted upward. A loose shingle scraped against the gutter above.
