When the Paint Slid-

English 原文
Sticky paint clung to Nora’s glove, tugging back each time she lifted the roller. She was a quiet bird enthusiast, happy to work alone behind the dim curtain while a bright-feathered parrot balanced on a coat rack nearby. The bird offered the occasional sharp squawk that bounced among costumes and ropes. A tin badge shaped like a safari hat hung from Ben’s jacket; he played the zookeeper in tonight’s show and sorted canvas bags across the floor. The paint had waited in a tall tin all morning, so its surface still held thick swirls that caught every tremor of the stage boards.
Heat from overhead lamps slowly thinned the paint. Its glossy surface loosened, and green ribbons began to drip down the backdrop in slow, syrupy lines. One ribbon slid faster when the parrot flapped, stirring a small current of warm air. Nora adjusted—she shifted her wrist, tilted the roller tray a little higher, and stepped sideways so the ooze fell onto a rag instead of her shoes. Another stream gathered pressure at the tin’s rim, then poured in a sudden arc that splashed near Ben’s boot. Laughter burst from him before Nora even looked up, and the parrot joined with a louder squawk, wings half-open as if applauding the mess.
The dripping eased as the lamps reached a steady temperature, and the paint regained a slow, even viscosity. Green still seeped along the lowest edge, but its motion quieted. Nora slid the roller across a fresh section of canvas, the pattern growing smoother again. The parrot settled onto one foot and tucked its beak beneath a wing. Behind them, the thin trickle on the rag lost speed until it formed a single bead that waited without falling.
