A faint plink echoed when a droplet struck the aluminum pan. Rosa paused beside the sunny windowsill, where a slim block of wax stood inside a shallow metal ring. Morning warmth slowly seeped through the high glass pane. The block carried a pale gloss of newness that still caught her eye. To conserve space, she had wedged an iced glass dish just beneath the ring. She thought the cool surface would keep nearby moss samples fresh. Warm air pressed downward anyway; the wax softened, leaned, and finally peeled free. It toppled onto the chilled dish and met the grains of ice. A gentle hiss rose as steam curled upward. That quick meeting between heat and cold began a restless chain far wider than Rosa expected.

Steam drifted across a row of clean slides that balanced on a wooden rack. The glass cooled the vapor; beads of water gathered, then slipped onto an open notebook below. Ink blurred, soaked through, and the sheen spread toward a tray of dried seeds. Rosa pivoted the wooden rack farther toward the window. The spreading droplets reached the tray’s corner and swelled the thin paper lining. She pinched two cork squares and propped them under the tray. Then she angled it so the liquid redirected into an empty jar. The chain slowed at last and left the table quieter. Beads still formed on the rack, but they trickled safely into the jar instead of the seeds. Outside the pane, warm light kept pouring into the small environment. Fresh steam kept drifting around the window frame.
