A bassy thump rolled through the glass tunnel when Wade’s elbow nudged the curved wall. The vibration slid along the acrylic arch and stirred a silver swarm below the amber lights. Wade shifted his sketchboard under one arm, while the other steadied a slim assistive device. The cane’s rubber tip tapped the floor in soft rhythms as he followed Olive toward the touch pool. A striped flounder lifted from the sand, drifted once, then vanished beneath scattered grains. Despite the feeding show clock creeping toward noon, Wade wanted one more outline of that hidden fish.

He propped the cane against the rocky rim, but the tip slipped on a wet patch. The shaft bumped a plastic feeding cup; pellets spilled and skittered across Olive’s open notebook. Olive flinched. Her elbow knocked a sprout-shaped wooden model from a nearby subset of props. The model bounced, rolled under the railing, and clipped a tower of empty cleaning buckets. Each bucket fell softer than the one before until the last simply rocked in place. Visitors murmured while a thin stream from the cup crept toward the walkway.

Olive crouched and pressed her palm against the wobbling bucket, stopping further tumble. Wade gathered the stray pellets, his shoulders lifting during a brief spell of introspection beneath the warm glow. A keeper noticed the damp trail and slid a wide mat over the floor, blocking the spread. Sand drifted across the flounder’s mottled back as though the fish wore slow confetti. Wade reopened his sketchbook; his pencil was tracing small arcs across the damp paper toward the edge.
