Brass Boat Glimpsed-

English 原文
Sand hissed as a swing scraped forward, then back again. The moving seat left a narrow groove, a fresh crescent pressed into the moist grit beside Cora’s sneakers. A sour tingle, part rust and part wet rope, drifted from the chain each time it strained. She knelt, breathing the air the way someone tastes soup, and noticed a sweeter trace—like the sugar milk left after breakfast cornflakes. The mark curved wider than any shoe she knew, and tiny bubbles clung to its edge as if the sand still held last night’s drizzle. Paint chips, green and brittle, dotted the ground like moss peeled from a hinterland fence.
Cora pinched one chip; the flake carried an earthy, oil-soaked odor that recalled the marina two villages away, though the sea lay far beyond the suburbs. The swing slowed, creaking softly. She did not utter a comment; instead she dug with the corner of a cracked plastic spade. The packed layer held fast, and the tool bent. She switched tactics, scooping with her cupped hands, but wet sand glued to her palms and slipped back. She paused, head low, inhaling the metallic tang left by an old handyman who had once greased the frame—years of grime had been rubbed bright by countless fingers.
Wind gusted; the empty seat lunged again and its rush of air whisked loose grains away. A thin bronze edge flashed. Cora hooked two fingers under it and eased out a palm-sized shape. Rinsing it in the shallow puddle by the slide, she found a tiny boat stamped in brass, its cabin windows cut clean. The earlier crescent had not been a footprint at all; the hull of this token had sliced that curve when someone dropped it. She closed her fist around the cool metal and slipped it into her pocket. A faint tang of brass lingered on her fingertips.
