English 原文
Nadia angled her sketchpad against the blue-grey curve of the observation tunnel, graphite already dusting her fingers. A quartet of silver moonfish glided above, their scales flashing like tiny mirrors, yet reflections from the overhead strip lights spilled across her page and blurred every outline. She shifted toward the side rail; suction cups on a nearby thermometer showed surprising steadfastness, gripping the glass without the slightest tremor. An utter hush lingered between pump pulses, but nothing could persuade the shy ray to drift close enough for detail. Nadia tightened the pencil lead and traced again, mindful that the feeding show would begin in ten minutes.
A sharp electronic chime broke the quiet. Visitors funneled toward the viewing bench, shoulders brushing her backpack and pushing her bodily toward the touch-pool corridor. She stepped away to avoid the rush, rinsed a smudge of graphite at the hand-wash station, and waited while a tide of feet passed. A caretaker had polished the tunnel pane yesterday, and now pale vertical streaks caught the changing light. Two minutes later she slipped back to her spot. During her brief absence, condensation beads had gathered and then rolled down; one droplet dried on the sketchpad, leaving a faint salt ring that crossed the fish outlines. Above, the moonfish now circled higher, their rhythm altered by the growing crowd.
Nadia adjusted without complaint. She darkened the salt ring, turning it into a rippling current beneath the fish. The new angle meant the ray finally swept low, broad wings blocking the center of the pane for several seconds. She noted its shape quickly, letting the altered light guide shadow placement. The suction thermometer remained unmoved, a quiet witness to time’s small prank. Her pencil was tracing the new tide-mark into the outline of a rising fin.
