English 原文
The wrapping table gleamed beneath the cool strip light, but a frost-white breadcrumb dotted the steel-grey surface. The speck lay beside a damp oval, a trace matching the curve of a tulip petal, and thin mist still ringed its edge. Beyond the glass door, robins flitted across the outdoor buckets, splashing light shadows over blue-grey puddles. Sage had already wiped the counter once that morning, yet the crumb looked new, as if it had fallen from a blueberry muffin only seconds earlier. Cool air drifted from the refrigerated display and brushed his sleeves with a faint chill; buckets reflected the fluorescent glare like rows of small mirrors. Somewhere near the storage cooler, a cricket chirped twice and fell silent, leaving relative quiet that made the single breadcrumb appear even louder to the eye.
Sage set a fresh stem bundle on the wrapping board; the arrangement needed to leave the table before warmth could ripen the delicate carnations. He pulled the narrow ribbon, hoping for a smooth sweep, and the strip released for a moment before folding back on itself and knotting tight. He spun the cardboard core backward with a brisk twist, but the jam only deepened, fraying blue threads against the spool rim. If the ribbon tangled again, the outer petals would sag before wrapping finished. Abandoning that roll, he crossed to the refrigerated display and met a new snag: every lavender carnation spot stood empty. The cooler had been stocked earlier by Heath, yet customers had cleared it. Sage opened the rear storage door; silver vapor spilled out, and a spare bucket waited inside. He carried the cold stems back, chose a fresh ribbon roll, and glided one uninterrupted loop around the bouquet. While trimming excess tissue, he spotted the lone crumb again and remembered his half-eaten muffin on the windowsill; the mystery mark finally made sense.
By evening, the shop glowed with a muted cobalt hue. Tissue scraps lay motionless beside the dried oval stain. A robin hopped onto the silent table and plucked the final breadcrumb from the ribbon spool.
