English 原文
A round print of dust lay on the bar counter where the red salsa jar usually waited, its absence outlined by a clean circle of polished wood. Hana tugged her sleeve over her fingers, brushed the cool surface, and leaned forward to search; the jar had slipped behind an ice bucket that glistened with thin frost. She lifted it, feeling the chill bite through the glass, and set it beside her plate. A thin mist spread across the warm pendant-lit counter, fogging the laminate in patches. Tiny beads rolled from the jar’s sweating sides, crossed the smooth grain, and gathered inside a narrow groove that split the counter like a miniature ravine. A small ceramic coyote, glued beside the napkin holder, rocked slightly each time an order runner hurried past, and Hana had to navigate her elbows away from splashing droplets. A shallow understanding of heat and cold formed as she watched the clear beads merge, then slip over the edge.
Under the hanging lamps, the frosty ring around the jar began to soften; warmth from the espresso machine puffed outward, gently raising steam that clouded the sneeze guard for a moment. The gathered water trickled off the counter’s lip and tapped onto the vinyl stool, darkening the seat with a spreading oval no larger than a coin. Gravity slowed the flow, yet the damp line kept moving, redirected by the bar’s brass trim that slanted toward a hidden metal trough. The trough, unseen until now, carried the water away in a quiet runnel—an intentional channel the carpenter had carved long ago—and the liquid dropped into a bucket resting under the sink. A server swung through the kitchen door and, with a swift wipe of a cloth, lifted the jar back to the ice bucket, breaking the chain of new droplets. At the end of the bar, Dorian, refilling glasses, nudged the bucket a little farther under the trough’s mouth, and the steady ribbon of water slid downward toward the repositioned pail.
