English 原文
"Into the circle this time," Sam muttered.
He pinched the crisp sheet between warm fingers and ran his thumb along a sharp center crease. Nora, kneeling below, swept fresh chalk around the target circle while her terrier sniffed the grass beside the line. Sam had folded the wings against a metal ruler only minutes earlier, then clipped a small paper clip on the nose for extra range. The clip's weight felt promising, yet the first launch plunged short, burying the nose in damp blades close to the drainage trench. A faint trace of chalk dust streaked the leading edge, proof of the miss. Retrieving the plane meant walking a slow circuit: downhill to the puddle, across the flat, then back up the slope and past the bench where a plastic container of spare clips glimmered in the sun.
At the hilltop again, sunlight heated the silver clip until it warmed the paper beneath. Metal expanded; the grip loosened; the clip slid forward a finger-width during flight. That sudden shift dragged the nose down, and the plane thudded into the turf three paces ahead of the earlier mark. Sam bent, studied the stray clip now resting hot in his palm, and noticed its curved side. Familiarity lingered in his movements—each fold mirrored the one before—yet the sliding weight showed a hidden use. He slid the hot clip onto the tail instead of the nose and pressed the crease flat against the stone adjustment pad. If the wind shifted again, that tail weight would steady the glide.
The third throw rose cleanly. Warm metal at the back balanced the wings, and the plane floated level through the amber light before dropping inside the chalk circle. Sam’s shoulders loosened; he jogged downhill to check the landing spot. Nearby, the terrier stepped back, ears pricked, as a sparrow shot away from the fence-line, carrying a pale grass thread toward the rooftops.
