English 原文
A pale rectangle of hot steam marked the cooling rack where a raspberry spiral usually cooled, and Lily nudged the empty tray toward the packaging station. Sugary aroma radiated upward, thick with butter and candied fruit, mixing with the yeasty breath of loaves resting nearby. She lowered fresh pastries into paper boxes whose insides carried a gentle vanilla taste that drifted out each time a lid lifted. At her elbow, a ribbon spool jerked, then ground to a stop; the cocoa-dusted air carried the dry hint of cardboard while she tugged the stiff ribbon edge. The spool refused to unwind, so she pressed it back, leaving a loose loop over the steel lip. Several boxes had been arranged in a neat tower, their warmth pushing a caramel note into the queue area.
A faint buzz skimmed through the cinnamon-sweet atmosphere; a lone insect pollinator—a small honeybee—zigzagged above the customer queue, attracted by the syrupy air. It brushed Lily’s cheek, and she flinched, abandoning the half-tied tower. She hurried to the entrance, pulled the glass door wide, and the bee drifted toward daylight. Cool street air rushed inside, carrying the metallic taste of wet pavement. The sudden draft rolled the stalled ribbon spool across the counter. The wooden core struck the box stack, knocking the top package forward. That box slid along the slick sugar dust, bumped the vase that displayed a trimmed wildflower branch, and the glass tilted. A flour bag stored beneath absorbed the impact with a muted thud, powdery scent blooming into the gap and halting the tumble.
Lily stepped back to the station, the aftertaste of airborne flour coating her tongue. Ribbon unraveled across the tiles like a glossy pink trail, and the loosened spool lay silent near the cooler. She gathered the ribbon, noticing that the fallen box now carried a faint floral scent where glaze had smeared against the wildflower branch. She tied each package with the flour-dusted ribbon instead of cutting fresh lengths, letting the sugary coating bond cloth to cardboard. If she had closed the door faster, the ribbon would have remained tight, yet the new sticky finish now held the bows firm without knots. Outside, the freed honeybee hovered beside a planter, wings fanning through the humid bakery plume while it drifted toward a yellow blossom near the curb.
