Paper Spinning with the Kite-

English 原文
“The reel keeps tilting forward.”
Gareth steadied it against the springy grass just inside the string-run corridor, glare from a high patch of sky bouncing off the plastic spool under his palm. Faye knelt nearby with a sketchbook, its pages fluttering in the gusts, leaving the flying to him. Overhead, the kite hung like a bright silhouette, back-lit fabric snapping then falling silent each time the wind shifted. Gareth's goal was simple: keep the diamond airborne long enough to read the wind’s rhythm. The first strong pull arrived without warning, and the handle refused to turn; a thick loop had wound over itself during launch. He tugged, the jam held, and the kite dipped, its image of a tranquil park tilting toward earth. Line hissed through his fingers while he tried to fathom the strain, but the loop still locked the reel.
He waited for the next lull, judging the dimming of the glow on the grass as a cloud slid across the sun; the tension eased, and he spun the spool backward a quarter turn before it stuck again. This time he shifted his grip by a thumb’s width and reeled only when a fresh shaft-of-light marked the return of the stronger breeze. The loop slipped, but a new snag formed where the worn mid-line knot stretched thinner than the rest. A tiny black beetle tried to climb aboard the vibrating string, was shaken off, and drifted onto the slope. At that moment a scrap of newspaper, perhaps blown up from a street corner beyond the trees, caught on the line and fluttered like an extra tail. Gareth lifted a small felt pouch that had once protected a jeweler’s ring, slipped it over the frayed section, and took in slack until the kite rose again. When the sun cleared the cloud completely, a chalk-pale strand glimmered inside the pouch, telling where the fibres had begun to give.
