English 原文
Salt crystals scratched under Neve's palm as she steadied herself on the upper shelf rock. Beside her, Keira balanced a sketchbook on the sun-warmed slab that acted as their temporary desk and supply station. Their shared aim sounded simple: capture the striped anemone’s colours before the returning tide covered it. The glossy water hurled back hard reflections, and each fresh burst of light wiped the bands from sight. Neve raised her wide hat, leaned forward, and built a neat shadow that dimmed the glare across the pool. The anemone’s rings brightened, resembling tiny weather patterns swirling over living skin, and her pencil began to move again. Just then a gust lifted an uncovered page, snapping it against the rock with a dry slap.
The flipped sheet dragged others with it, and the charcoal lines Keira had drawn earlier were smudged into grey fog. Those outlines had been softened by salt spray already, but the sudden movement pressed damp grit deep into the fibres. Keira pinned the fluttering pages with her elbow; the angle forced her wrist to wobble each time she tried to focus. If the wind rose again, the whole notebook would kite away across the crusty shelf. Reading the silent plea, Neve slipped a flat pebble from the pool rim and eased it onto the top corner. The weight calmed the paper, yet a faint circle pressed through, marking the damp sheet like a soft seal. Meanwhile, Keira angled a pocket mirror so a narrow blade of sunlight sliced under the anemone’s overhang, keeping the colours visible.
Before they regained rhythm, a hermit crab lumbered over the rock lip, dragging a pottery shard whose glazed swirls held timeless charm. The creature scrambled onto the hat brim, turning the stiff fabric into a wobbling raft under its sandy claws. The tiny tableau carried a heartwarming absurdity, and both girls’ shoulders loosened as they balanced between patience and rising water. Specks of green paint on the shard formed a cottage window, a bright reminiscence of hearth and home bobbing with every step. Keira lowered the hat onto the dry slab; the crab clung firmly, while the mirror continued to direct its steady beam. Tidal murmurs thickened, yet pencil lines deepened, and the anemone remained open long enough for shading to finish. They finally gathered their things, and a damp ring from the pebble remained on the top page.
