A wide dragon shadow spread over the sheet, its jaw opening and closing as Ivan’s wrist moved behind the fabric. Zander stepped to the light-source window, turtle cut-out perched on his own stick. The afternoon glare poured through the upper pane, drawing razor-sharp edges across the cloth. He aimed his turtle toward the centre, yet the reversed view forced every gesture to tilt the wrong way; left became right, and the animal drifted off its mark. The mirrored dance proved a stubborn learning curve. Zander lowered his arm, willing his elbows to mimic the dragon’s precise path. Sunlight kept blazing, and the turtle silhouette still wobbled like a slow drum. He decided to take a moment, breathing near the warm sill while he studied the shifting shadow-edge. Tiny gleams dotted his eyelashes where the glare bounced upward. Serenity hovered on the audience cushions, broken only by a brief flutter as a draft brushed the lower hem of the sheet.

Just as the next attempt began, a pin at the upper left corner sprang loose; the cloth sagged, opening a pale V where light leaked through. The dragon glided away, but Zander stayed, adjusting instead of calling the nearby adult who was cutting fresh shapes at the prop table. He crouched, extended the turtle closer to the glass, then angled the stick so luminescence from the window haloed the shell and filled the new gap. The fold now sliced the projection like a riverbank, yet his slower wrist turned the obstacle into scenery. Shadows overlapped without merging into a dark blob, and Ivan’s dragon re-entered on the higher stretch, the two figures avoiding collision by tracing staggered arcs. The sun inched onward; edges softened, though the small story held together until both puppets slipped beneath the sill. Faint warmth lingered on the wooden sill.
