Fresh roses had been arranged by color inside the display, and she had picked them before their edges could fade. When the timer clicked, cool mist drifted outward, landing on her sheet and leaving patches across the center. Ignoring the damp marks, she folded the left edge, tried the right, and watched the paper collapse along a crease. If the bell rang again, the warmer draft would spread farther, and the whole sheet might fracture. She glanced at the copper ribbon the cat now pushed and borrowed the spool as an improvised brace. Placing the cylinder under the fold, she repeated the same press and held her palms two seconds longer. The cooler breeze met the warm air, slowing evaporation, and the paper fibers stayed linked instead of bursting. A final wrap circled the bouquet, and a single rose with petals curved like an enchantress’s gown slid neatly into place. Near the doorway, a loose ribbon strip drifted upward on the draft, lifting and dipping in copper arcs.
