English 原文
The waxy green thread slipped coolly across Yves’s thumb as he pulled it into place, and the faint creak of the tape on the bench armrest answered his tug. Seven neat rows already arched across the taped loom like a tiny geographical map of coloured ridges, the red peak showing boldness under the honey-coloured sunlight. He had tried tightening each knot twice, yet the smooth green strand kept sliding back, loosening the linkage of the whole chevron. When he jerked it tighter, his elbow brushed the bead cup—the small glass repository rattled, tipped, and released a handful of amber beads. They pattered over the metal armrest, struck the taped threads, and several beads were trapped between the warm slats.
Before he could gather them, a light breeze fluttered the pattern card propped against the backrest. The cardboard fell forward, nudging the loose beads again and rolling one bright sphere onto the lifted edge of tape. Yves steadied the cup, but the single bead now clung to the sticky glue like a tiny anchor. Checking the tangle, he noticed that the same slickness that caused trouble made the green thread slide effortlessly through the bead’s narrow hole. With deliberate boldness of finger work, he fed the slippery strand through the glass, drew it down, and let the bead press against the drifting knots. Its weight and the tacky tape joined forces; the row tightened instead of sliding. He finished the next knots, and the once-annoying thread became a quiet outreach that locked the pattern straight.
Yves lifted the half-made bracelet to his wrist for a quick measure; the colours lay flat and even, held firm by that single repurposed bead. At the same moment, on the paving stones below, two pigeons chased scattered crumbs in widening circles, their wings sending tiny gusts that kept the suspended band swinging gently between Yves’s fingers.
