Rows had been arranged by region earlier that day, and tiny paper dividers kept nearby bundles from touching. After four quick sniffs, every new aroma blended; only a faint tingling at the tip of his nose showed any difference. Assuming the next sample would stand out was wishful thinking; the warm air simply carried the same blurred cloud back to him. To clear his senses for a moment, he gently fanned the warm air with a thick price card. The motion only stirred another swirl from the flamboyant crimson label hanging above the tray.

A thin stream of heat slipped upward, softening the wax that held the label in place.
