English 原文
"Catch the spot!" Cora whispered.
The shifting glare skimmed over the rough carpet, and a small moth launched into the bright track. Earlier she had balanced a mirror against a thick dictionary, the plastic rim pressing into her thumb while she nudged the angle. From there, the beam skipped onto another mirror resting against a smooth shoebox near the window. It then sped toward the white card that had been fastened with fresh tape on the far wall. Near the window, Pierce leafed through a paperback, his arm keeping the curtain gap steady without looking up. The book covers beneath the mirrors felt warm, yet every mirror back stayed faintly cold. Lines of tape on the floor recorded her earlier diligence; each strip showed where the rectangle of light had already strayed. A slim wooden wedge now steadied the first stand, but the spot still kept creeping sideways.
A sharp kettle whistle cut the quiet; steam rattled a saucepan lid beyond the doorway. Cora placed the last mirror flat, careful not to block the beam, and hurried toward the kitchen tiles. The brief kitchen detour lasted only a single minute of boiling water and clattering lids. During that absence the sun inched lower and the hallway draft rolled an open notebook, nudging the dictionary. When she returned, recognition came with a sigh: the beam no longer reached the card. It splashed across the skirting board, and the moth now rested on that cool white surface. Its wings, patterned like tiny woven rugs, displayed the room's hidden biodiversity far better than dust motes ever had. The repeatedly reused shoebox hinted at quiet sustainability among her scattered tools, though its square sides had bowed under heat.
Cora crouched in the adjustment zone, the carpet pressing ridged patterns against her knees, and lifted the tilted mirror. She slid a fresh wooden wedge underneath to reinforce the shaky angle of the mirror. Then she inched the surface until the spot crept back toward the card and poured soft warmth over the settled moth. The insect stayed still under the steady glow, its minute hairs catching light like fine dust. A fresh stripe of tape secured the mirror, and the beam held firm even as the sun drifted onward. While she stretched to collect another mirror, her elbow flattened the fluttering notebook page against the desk.
