A Leaning Mille Crêpe and the Hidden Vine in the Marble-

English 原文
The marble slab should have cooled her fingertips, yet a shy warmth spread across the stone when Rhea touched it. She stood inside the small mille crêpe kitchen she knew by heart: the gas burner breathed under the seasoned pan, a jar of aromatic herbs rested beside the flour canister, and a brass lock on the cupboard door clicked each time the supervising adult fetched fresh towels. Erik, seated on a stool, kept a chalk tally. “Seven so far,” he said while swinging his feet. Rhea had already placed those seven crêpes on the wire rack, but the warming slab threatened the pastry cream waiting in its bowl; if the cream softened too fast, the next layers would slide. She folded a fresh frozen towel, set it under the slab, and pressed until a faint crackle of ice met stone. The cream settled into a slow ripple, its surface gaining back the firm shine she trusted.
Lifting the heavy slab, Rhea brushed the stacking board by accident. The growing cake shifted a finger’s width, and the neat cylinder leaned like a young vine searching for light. Cream squeezed outward and formed a glossy ring near the base, turning element B—alignment—into a new problem. She steadied the board with one palm, rotated the cake a few degrees, and coaxed the bulge inward with the offset spatula. The adjustment left a gentle ridge, yet the tower stood again. A patch of condensation cleared from the marble, uncovering a pale vine motif etched into the surface, a detail hidden by cold in earlier sessions. The pattern felt quintessential to the slab, quietly present long before today. Rhea smiled without a word, then placed the eighth crêpe; the cake rose, not perfect, but secure enough.
When she finally stepped back, the marble showed a foggy oval where her wrist had rested, and a thin cream smear arced across the board’s edge—small, lasting traces of the day’s careful tradeoff.
