English 原文
A crisp snap cut the garden hush as a surface bubble burst inside the bucket. Esme steadied her elbows, slid the coat-hanger hoop into the cool solution, and lifted with slow, continuous pressure. Liquid streamed away yet a thin film clung, shimmering with rolling bands that moved like a lazy cascade. She stepped toward the wind-shadow wall, knees flexing to absorb each footfall so no tremor shook the fragile membrane. Sunlight hit the film from behind her shoulder, and the coloured stripes deepened, sending brief crimson flashes onto the fence boards. Noel crouched nearby with a smaller wand, and his quiet voice drifted over, “See the swirls.” Esme had planned to hold the hoop aloft long enough for him to sketch the shifting pattern. The wider hoop had been reserved for the final display, yet it waited untouched beside the bucket.
The film thinned before Noel lifted his pencil; a ripple raced upward, and the entire pane vanished in silence. She returned to the table for another dip and noticed the bucket level sat lower than the first knuckle on her thumb. Foam islands crowded the surface, leaving fewer clear lanes where a frame could enter without trapping air. She had stirred the solution earlier, yet the heavier glycerine already drifted downward, creating duller patches that refused to shine. A gust bent a shrub, brushed her arm, and the next film burst the moment its edge left the bucket rim. The resource felt like water inside a vacuum bag, present but squeezed, escaping through any small careless move. Esme narrowed her aim; she set the heavy hoop aside and picked the plastic bottle ring, lighter and easier to glide. Her motions grew meticulous, wrists locked, shoulders low, each lift lasting barely a heartbeat to save every drop.
The smaller ring emerged with a steady sheet that curved inward, forming a pocket of trembling colour. She angled it toward Noel; the stripes brightened for three breaths before gravity pulled the top into a clear dome. He traced the outline quickly, charcoal ticking across paper while the film held like glass. A faint bee buzz pushed a ripple over the surface, yet the membrane stayed intact for his final stroke. When it finally burst, only a soft spray marked the grass, and the bucket showed a shallow silver circle. Esme accepted that circle as today’s finish; the larger frames could wait for a fuller mix another morning. She placed the ring on the table, and one last drop slipped off the rim and tapped the grass.
