The Cable Spool That Rolled Across the Storeroom -

English 原文
“Dusty scissors keep catching here.”
Glynis shook her wrist, and the metal tips finally snapped apart with a click. She placed the scissors on a low crate beside the aisle and stepped away. A small grey mouse slipped from a gap under the skirting board and lifted its nose. The storeroom stretched like a maze of leaning boxes, stitched with tape and brown twine. Near the loading door a paper bag lay open, its bottom glittering with dry grain. Light from a single bulb swung gently, so dust motes arrived, hovering over every shelf.
The mouse pressed its paws against a narrow cable spool and climbed. The wooden rim rolled under its weight. Momentum carried the spool into a stack of cartons. The top carton slumped, finding a shaky compromise between the shelf and the wall. A melodious ting followed as a brass bell, once tied to twine, toppled and kissed a glass jar. Vibration shook the scissors from the crate. The metal glided off the edge, striking the concrete with a clear ring. Pale yellow light touched the cool grey floor. The sound echoed along the aisles like ripples across tin.
The cable spool wobbled once more and settled. A sharp squall burst through the half-open loading door. It lifted the paper bag and scattered grain across the concrete. Several kernels bounced near the mouse. It pushed one under its chest, then vanished behind a low carton. A beetle crawled through the gap under the dock threshold. It tapped its shell against a fallen grain and marched toward the darker corner.
