English 原文
The wooden paddle handle felt warm and slightly rough against Stellan's palms. He gently eased three brown loaves deeper into the brick oven, using short, practiced pushes. Radiant heat rolled past his sleeves, and a faint crackle answered each shift of crust. Above the stove, warm air shimmered and carried a sweet yeast smell mixed with faint metal. Behind him, Yara brushed flour from a cool marble counter near the open window. Her brother arrived early each day, drawn by the smell of rising dough. White steam puffed from a steel kettle resting on the stove top near the oven door. It began to interact with the cooler glass of a tall vase, wrapping the surface in fine mist. A sharp pop from the oven rose like a question in the warm air.
Within a few seconds, pearly condensation thickened across the vase. Tiny drops slid down the glass and pooled on the smooth marble. The puddle crept under the rounded base, turning the glass into a slow skater. Yara spotted the slide first; her eyebrows lifted, and she tapped Stellan’s elbow. "The tray is hot," Stellan said, though his gaze followed the wandering flowers. "All right?" Yara asked, keeping her palms on the dough. The siblings continued to converse about weekend orders while their hands stayed busy. When Stellan pulled the paddle free, the sudden draft pushed a warmer wave across the counter. The vase trembled, tipped toward the edge, and kept moving.
Stellan lunged, catching the neck, while Yara pressed two steadying fingers near the base. Their quick grip stopped the glide. Flour dust clung to the glass, leaving pale ovals under their touch. They shifted the vase farther from the oven mouth and returned to folding dough. Two white handprints, one larger and one small, stayed on the glossy vase where they had steadied it. Yara blew a stray petal off the rim, and the bloom nodded over the paired marks.
