English 原文
Most Saturdays, Roslyn pressed her forehead to the claw machine’s glass; today the pane carried a faint chill, and her brow lifted sooner. She nudged the joystick a notch, and the trolley replied with a soft chain rattle, then a click as the stick slipped back into center. Earlier, when the empty claw rose from an idle drop, the three chrome fingers twitched tighter halfway up, a hidden spring showing its work in midair. Pastel LEDs washed the pile from pink to mint, and the warm room pressed through her sweater while the glass stayed cool under the stripe of her hair. Dorian leaned near the neighboring cabinet, arms folded, watching their two reflections blur where her breath left a faint oval of condensation.
Earlier that morning, by the lobby’s small makers’ table, a beekeeper in a netted hat set a wooden frame on cloth flecked with wax. Roslyn rolled a brayer through thin orange ink and over a rubber plate, a honeycomb blooming on paper while Dorian held the corners against a draft. The frame smelled like warm sun and smoke, and the beekeeper turned it slowly, stewardship living in the way his thumbs traced each capped cell. He counted three jars into a tray, a quiet quota that matched the space he had, lids clicking once, their sides still carrying the day’s heat.
Now the cabinet interior shifted to lavender, and a blue plush showed teal; Roslyn tracked the claw’s shadow until it crossed a stitched ear. Her breath fogged the pane and then a clear wake cut through it as she slid her brow sideways, aligning the shadow with a thin fabric loop. The stuffed mound pushed back in its own way: one toy sagged into the gap she wanted, and the loop tucked itself half under a paw. Dorian’s voice floated from her left, even and low: "Here." His finger hovered near the glass, not quite touching, marking open space without drawing a line.
Roslyn slid the trolley a breath to the right and stopped, the center click canceling drift; she held still to feel the motor’s faint hum through the panel. One claw finger would pass just beyond the loop, she judged, and the late pinch she had watched earlier might nip the cloth when the cable lifted. A racing game’s engine flared somewhere behind them, and the cabinet trembled only enough to ripple a ribbon on a bear’s hat and then settled. She swallowed, eased her weight off her toes, and kept her thumb poised above the drop button.
