English 原文
Theo tapped the fork on his knee and set its base to the iron frame; a thin note rose from somewhere inside, though no key moved.
"Did that happen without me?" Katia leaned near the open lid, her hand hovering above the bright wires.
Sunlight from the window laid a pale stripe over the rows of strings, and a glass on the side table drew faint rings that widened, thinned, and disappeared.
A faint smell of metal mingled with polish as the lid held its angle.
Katia slid a rubber mute between the neighboring strings, leaving one steel line free, and pressed the key while Theo turned the lever one breath at a time.
The handle resisted, then yielded a fraction; a tiny haptic tremor ran through his palm and into the wooden bench.
Beats wavered under the fork's pitch like slow waves, faster, then slower, until they flickered out and the room held still around that single length of wire.
"This one?" Theo kept the key down long enough for the shimmer to settle.
Across the carpet, a vacant chair faced the window, its back washed in glare; the sun inched higher and threw stripes that slid over the pinblock.
Each careful twist brought the beats toward equilibrium, yet the warming frame let earlier notes wander, a small, almost inevitable drift that made the fork quiver again.
Theo pressed the rightmost pedal to hear the decay, and undamped wires across the scale answered in a silver haze that blurred the counting.
He lifted his foot again, and the silence thinned everything too far to judge the slow pulses.
Katia paused with the lever poised, then set it down and reached instead for the fork, touching its base to the plate while Theo held the pedal halfway.
Not just one spot murmured now; the cast iron, a quiet transmitter, sent the touch outward, and far strings showed themselves as a loose tremor in the glass.
Theo glanced from the ripples to her hand and back to the open lid, and his voice dropped without needing to say anything else.
"Here, then," he said, holding the key down again, his hand lighter this time.
The beats vanished, returned thinly, and steadied once more, a balance they could keep only by letting the notes behind them drift in the corners.
"Back to the first ones?" Theo hovered over the keys, the question hanging while the low strings kept their faint shimmer.
Katia shifted the rubber mute to the next pair and, instead of chasing every last pulse, leaned until her ear caught the steadier center.
The sun slid another finger-width across the windowpane, and the water rings damped into flatness between notes.
Returning her focus, Katia touched the tuning fork to the iron frame again, reading the faint haptic buzz as a dry, grainy tick under her palm.
