Felix at Harbor Dusk-

English 원문
Felix reached the harbor just as dusk blurred the sky into violet streaks. He had promised to find his sister a gift for her collection, and rumor spoke of a market stall that carried every kind of nautical curio. Masts creaked nearby while gulls circled above the nets. Warm lamps hung between barrels, throwing patches of light across wet planks. A small compass, carved from brass and glass, had been described to him by an old deckhand. Under such description the object almost felt alive, and Felix pictured the grin on his sister’s face the moment it ticked in her palm.
Yet a peculiar circumstance greeted him. The stall stood shuttered, a chain looped through its handles, and no merchant lingered. If he had arrived earlier, the counter might have stayed open, but now only salty wind filled the gap. Felix pressed an ear against the wood; something inside rattled. He searched for another route, sliding between crates, but a sudden rope pile snagged his ankle and forced a stumble that scraped his sleeve. After regaining balance, he noticed a loose plank behind the stall. He had been warned that harbor repairs were slow, so he wedged a dagger-shaped shard of driftwood under the edge and pushed. The plank lifted, revealing a box wrapped in canvas.
Inside lay the compass, more peculiar than the stories, its lid engraved with whorls that formed a baffling pattern. The device had been mounted on a gimbal so delicate that a breath could tilt it. Felix steadied his hands, yet the needle spun wildly, then locked onto a direction that pointed beyond the pier. Tide water lapped, reflecting thin lines of lantern light. Hushed footfalls echoed behind him, but when he turned, no figure crossed the deck. Discovering no pursuer, he tucked the find into his coat and secured the plank again. The brass compass rested inside his open palm, its needle at last standing still.
