One section curled tighter than the rest; strands of plastic exhibited a hint of torsion, the coil tightening like a watched spring. Milo’s eyes shifted between the tube and the unfinished report on the monitor.

A sudden shudder ran through the hose, and the coil kinked. Liquid sprayed in a bright arc across the floor, alarms chirped, and conveyor motors fell silent. Milo splashed forward, unclamped the warped segment, and straightened it; grape skins rattled inside the filters as pressure returned. He brushed stray drops from his sleeves and pressed the reset switch. Cylinders hissed, belts rolled, and the system grew operational once more. A brief power surge from the restart made his monitor flicker, and, without warning, the network dispatched his half-written report. A confirmation icon blinked, green and smug, announcing delivery he had not intended yet.

Warm air settled over the room, carrying a low drone of bees already exploring the puddle where nectar still glistened on concrete. Milo mopped the spill, left the cloth by the drain, and flexed his fingers to dislodge drying sugar. The troublesome space bar glimmered under fluorescent tubes, a single sticky sheen among dull keys. Outside the window, pickers laughed as another truck reversed toward the loading ramp, its wheels crunching gravel in leisurely rhythm. Conveyor belts hummed while neat rows of capped bottles rested beneath the steady warehouse lights.
