English 원문
During the town’s summer parade, Mira had hoped to capture a wide photograph from the community center’s flat roof. The parade promised giant drums, bright costumes, and a single enormous balloon shaped like a sun. She arrived early, carrying a folding ladder she had borrowed. The rooftop hatch, however, had been locked by maintenance staff; a fresh chain glittered across it. Wind pressed against the ladder, tilting its top rung, and her fingers slipped. A hush of respect drifted from neighbors assembling chairs below, as if the silent building discouraged her climb. Mira wiped dust from her palms and studied the outer wall, already searching for another path upward.
A narrow fire escape stood nearby, yet its lowest step hung a meter above the pavement. She dragged a recycling bin beneath it, but the plastic surface wobbled. If she had known the night rain would leave the bin so slick, she would have packed a sturdier crate. As her foot slid, Tariq, a passer-by, steadied the bin; his elbow offered a quiet helping hand without a single word. Even with the boost, the rusty latch on the escape refused to budge. Mira had built upon each small idea—ladder, bin, stranger’s grip—yet metal still blocked her view. Below, drums thundered; the parade was already turning the corner.
While stepping back, she noticed windows on the second floor opening outward like pages that unfold. One pane, loosened by age, released fully and stayed wide. A distant mirror inside reflected blue sky—a ready vantage point that no hatch could rival. She sprinted indoors, climbed the central stairs, and reached the vacant office behind the window. The parade flowed beneath, and the golden balloon brushed rooftops at eye level. Mira steadied her camera on the sill, breath briefly clouding the glass, and captured the scene in sweeping frames. When the final drumbeat faded, colorful fragments of ribbon rested on the quiet floor.
