Tim walked across the yard toward the barn door.

He planned to fill a small jug with fresh milk.

A gentle breeze slipped through the open window above.

The moving air pushed a loose rope off a wooden peg.

The rope dropped and knocked a bucket against the gate latch.

The gate swung wide and a spotted cow stepped outside.

She trotted across the dusty infield between the sheds and coop.

Tim hurried, yet the gate scraped the ground and jammed.

He grabbed a handful of sweet hay from a nearby stack.

The cow noticed the hay and paused near a tool rack.

Tim backed slowly, shaking the hay toward the empty stall.

Hooves clicked; the cow followed the path and entered again.

Tim flicked the rope over the post; the latch dropped closed.

Noise faded, and the breeze only ruffled loose straw now.

Tim wiped his hands and reached for the silver pail.

He set the pail under the cow and started to milk.
