Marco stepped from the late-afternoon train with his backpack bumping against his side. A noisy line of commuters streamed toward the exit. He lingered on the platform, watching clouds above the river catch the last copper light. One tired commuter adjusted a loosened tie and hurried toward the stairs. He had planned to record a brief moment: the first firefly of early summer rising over the grass. The idea had carried him through multiple meetings and a crowded ride across town. Now, with dusk settling, he hurried toward Riverside Meadow, camera dangling from his wrist like a silver key. Warm air brushed his cheeks, and distant bicycle bells echoed along the pavement.

Grass already hid soft beads of dew when he reached the meadow. He quickly framed the glow with steady hands, pressed the shutter. Then he realized the spark belonged to a tiny green diode shaken loose from a child’s toy boat. His mouth opened without sound, a half-laugh mixing with a quiet sigh. Before he lowered the phone, a second, warmer glimmer appeared higher, pulsing gently against the darkening trees. This small light bobbed slowly through the humid air with an insect’s uneven flight. He captured three quick shots before the screen faded completely to black. A single image rested on the dim screen beneath the quiet park lamp.
