English 원문
Maya spread sheets of green cardboard across the community-center table. The afternoon collection truck would arrive within an hour, and her goal— a life-size stegosaurus meant as a donation to the librarys new play corner— still lay in flat pieces. The model had been designed by a renowned paleontologist, and the blueprint had been printed with tiny numbers beside every fold. She wondered whether the curved plates along the creatures back would stay upright. After she had traced each outline with a blunt pencil, she began folding, the paper creasing like quiet footsteps across the room.
Progress slowed when the tail plates refused to lock. Her first approach— pressing two slots together— left a gap, and the cardboard sagged. Warm glue dripped, then stiffened before she could slide the tabs. A narrow draft from the open window lifted loose instructions, scattering them onto the floor, so she kneeled, gathered the pages, and tried a second angle, bending the edges inward. Again the joint slipped apart. If she had known a simpler trick, she would have saved herself a sticky palm and ten valuable minutes. Each failed attempt deepened the clutter spreading over scissors, tape, and markers.
She tapped the empty box, and a dull rattle rolled inside the cardboard walls. After shaking it harder, a final plate appeared, wedged inside the curled blueprint. Its shape slid perfectly into the gap, and the pieces met with an intricate bond of tabs, slots, and a thin strip of fresh glue. A liberating laugh slipped out while she guided the heavy body onto a wheeled palette. By the time headlights flashed through the doorway, every loose scrap had been swept aside. The driver raised an eyebrow at the towering figure, smiled, and said, "Nice work." The cardboard stegosaurus stood near the doorway, its plates catching soft late sunlight.
