English 원문
Morning haze still clung between the beeches when Layla stepped from the gravel track into a narrow forest path. She had planned the excursion since spring; a rare luminous moss was reported inside a distant glade, and her ecology project required a clear photograph of it. A folded map had been marked by her teacher, naming this corner of woodland as the dampest pocket in the biome. If the rumor proved accurate, the moss could hint at a wetter epoch buried in the rings of every nearby tree. Layla lifted her tripod like an umbrella, shaking droplets away, and followed the winding roots that criss-crossed the soil like sleepy snakes.
A tangle of brambles soon snagged her sleeve, slowing each step. She freed the cloth, yet the strap on her camera slipped, and the lens cap disappeared into shadow. Stooping to recover it, she noticed the battery icon flashing red. If she had remembered spare batteries, the first attempt would have succeeded without drama. Instead, she balanced the camera against a boulder and tried a quick sketch, but graphite smeared as drizzle thickened. By the time she reached the clearing, a fallen trunk had been measured by earlier teams and now blocked direct light, turning the moss into a dim smear of green. Her photograph looked like a clouded mirror.
She searched the ground for a brighter angle and tapped the trunk; its bark cracked, revealing a cluster of quartz that scattered the weak sunlight in every direction. The sudden brightness raised an elation of sound from hidden crickets, their chorus vibrating like tiny bells. Layla angled the quartz shard beneath the moss, and pale turquoise tones flared across the leaf litter with unexpected magnitude. The camera captured the glow just before the battery failed entirely. While packing the shard into a specimen pouch, she realized the broken trunk had created the perfect reflector only because time and fungus had hollowed it. Soft evening light rested on the newly cleared glade.
