English 원문
Milo zipped his winter coat higher, a bright cloud rising each time he breathed. He had already spent three winter weekends patiently reading bird guides at home. Now he wanted one clear photograph of the elusive waxwing rumored to perch near the frozen pond. The park path had been blocked by a fallen branch, so he stepped off the gravel and pushed through a narrow thicket. Snow tipped the bare twigs, brushing his sleeves and slowing every stride. Patches of pale light spill out across the ground, but no bird silhouette crossed them. When a distant flutter reached him, his shoulders straightened, and he pressed deeper into the quiet maze.
He reached the pond’s edge, raised his camera, and found the screen dark; the battery had been drained by the cold. If Milo had remembered spare batteries, the search would have ended sooner, yet disappointment only tightened his grip. He rubbed the metal case against his scarf, hoping warmth might wake the device. After several seconds, the screen flickered once in weak blue light and then faded again. A muffled grunt of triumph sounded nearby; a dog walker had located a lost glove, making Milo chuckle despite the setback. While he waited, drifting flakes began to thicken, weaving a fresh narrative over the footprints that circled the water.
Wind shifted, shaking loose catkins that tapped the camera lens and sprinkled pollen lines across the glass. The small jolt nudged a remaining spark inside the battery, and the screen finally blinked alive. Milo crouched behind a mossy log, elbows steady on the frost, waiting for any shape to emerge. A rustle lifted the snow; a hedgehog, apparently stirred too early from hibernation, nosed through the white crust. He framed the scene quickly, heartbeats pounding behind his collar, and pressed the shutter as the creature sniffed a fallen berry. The flash startled several waxwings above, yet the unexpected visitor filled the frame instead. The tiny hedgehog stood beneath the thawing leaves, camera light glinting on its damp nose.
