Mila carried a small sketchbook across the green hill.

She planned to visit Hugo, the friendly village herdsman.

In her dream, sheep danced in neat lines.

Now she wanted real sheep for a fresh picture.

Several clouds drifted overhead and cooled the summer air.

She opened the wooden gate and stepped into the yard.

A playful goat bumped a bucket beside the fence.

Water splashed across her shoes and soaked the dusty path.

The wet ground turned smooth, and her foot slid sideways.

Mila waved her arms, stopping the goat from more trouble.

She placed the bucket upright and guided the water away.

A soft rustle came from the porch near the door.

There, an invite lay under a smooth stone.

Curious, she lifted it and found bright ribbon inside.

Hugo stepped outside and laughed at the muddy scene.

He explained the ribbon won first prize at the fair.

The fair judges liked Mila’s picture from last spring.

Her cheeks warmed, and she gripped the invite tightly.

Water dripped from her shoes while Hugo pointed toward the hill.

Together they walked inside the barn to sketch new sheep.
