Late morning light slanted across the village square. Nora carried a bundle of colorful streamers toward the old clock tower. The tower, whose paint has faded after many winters, offered hooks where decorations could hang. She placed a wooden ladder, which had been repaired with new screws last month, against the brick. Her goal was simple: brighten the tower before the spring concert began. As she climbed, a chill gust struck; the ladder rocked, and one streamer whipped around her arm. She steadied herself, yet the wind kept tugging, pressing time and balance against her rising steps.

Halfway up, another gust arrived unexpectedly, snapping the highest streamer loose. The ribbon spiralled downward and landed beside a planter where a single tulip had opened overnight. Its petals lifted in the breeze like a tiny flag. Nora paused on the rung, then altered her plan. Instead of fighting the wind above, she tied the remaining ribbons along the lower balcony rail. The gesture created a lovely ring that framed the new flower. When the church bell chimed noon, the square showed fresh color at eye level. The ladder rested unused against the wall quietly. The tulip swayed below while the streamers fluttered calmly overhead.
