Under the Fig Tree-

English 원문
Mira stepped through the rattling greenhouse door, cradling a shallow wooden tray. A single fig tree stretched across the glass roof, its wide leaves filtering noon light into shifting patches. Beneath the branches lay an array of brushes, jars, and sketchbooks, already scattered by someone else. Jonas knelt nearby, comparing two shades of green on his palette. The space between them tightened when Mira tried to lay her tray on a small folding table; the hinge resisted, squeaking, then held firm only after her second push. A ripe fig brushed her shoulder, fell, and split open on the stone, releasing a fragrant ribbon of color that spread toward both sets of shoes.
Jonas reached for a rag; Mira’s hand met his halfway. Their fingers paused over the cloth, then withdrew without comment. Mira slid the broken fig onto a scrap of canvas, smearing the pulp in a slow curve. The juice met the paint on Jonas’s brush, and the unexpected fusion produced a warm russet neither had prepared. He raised an eyebrow; she answered with a brief nod, shoulders loosening. More figs dropped at irregular intervals, each arrival adding streaks of amber, rose, or deep wine to the growing collage. The greenhouse grew busier: droplets from the watering system tapped the roof, leaves rustled, and paints clicked shut and opened again as new shades joined the developing surface. The scene itself suggested unfolding possibilities, as if every sound and motion pressed new tones into view without arranging them.
When Jonas lifted a larger canvas from the wall, a corner snagged on a branch. The sudden tug tilted a water jar; clear liquid splashed across the stone and lifted specks of pigment into swirling eddies. Mira pivoted, catching the jar before it rolled farther. Water, pulp, and color merged, flowing between the square paving stones in thin streams. They lowered the bigger canvas onto the wetted ground, letting the mixture glide beneath the frame. Patterns blossomed, drying into irregular borders that neither brush nor pen could have traced alone. Mira crouched to watch the edges settle; Jonas balanced a new sheet beside her, waiting for the surface to still.
Light thinned toward afternoon, slipping through the high glass and pooling around their quiet tools.
Soft amber light rested on the stained boards.
