When the Last Doughnut Escaped-

English 원문
Early sunlight spilled across the stone square, and the market fair woke in small tremors—canvas roofs flapping, wheels rattling, kettles clinking. Near the bakery stall, Mira edged forward, her shoulders brushing other coats. A blissful ribbon of air, warm and sweet, drifted from stacked trays of baking bread. Jonas arrived from the opposite side, cheeks pink from pedal-powered delivery work, bicycle resting against a crate. Both pairs of eyes locked on a single doughnut that waited on its plate like a quiet trophy.
The server bent to fetch fresh parchment, and the queue compressed. Jonas lifted one hand toward the plate. At the same instant Mira’s sleeve grazed it, tilting the paper doily. The doughnut rolled, bounced once, and disappeared through the gap at the stall’s rear. A soft thud followed, then an unexpected hiss—the baker had opened the oven too quickly; steam burst, startling a line of finches on the canopy. Trays rocked, and one half-shaped loaf slid toward the edge. Mira lunged, palm flat against hot tin, halting the skid; Jonas steadied the opposite corner, flour blooming around their boots.
With a rough sigh, the baker dropped a lump of pale mixture onto the counter. Fingers busy with an escaping tie on his apron, he pivoted to check another timer. The lump sagged outward, losing structure. Mira pressed her knuckles in first, shoulders rolling as if remembering a rhythm; Jonas mirrored her pace, and together they began to knead dough until its surface tightened. Their motion coaxed small creaks from the table joints. Around them, chatter swirled and thinned, then returned to its usual hum when nothing dramatic followed. A new tray entered the oven; metal clicked, locks turned, warmth spread again. The original doughnut never reappeared, yet when the fresh loaf finally emerged, the baker cut two thick slices and placed them—without a word—onto the board they had rescued. Mira offered one slice across the counter span; Jonas accepted, bread skin crackling between cautious fingers. Neither said anything about settlements or repayment; crumbs just collected on jackets while the fair continued its disorganized ballet.
Steam hovered above the cooling loaf on the wooden bench.
