Mia held a bright baseball near the silent stadium gate. She wanted to test her new glove on the field. Only Leo came with her, carrying two small bats. Morning light filled the wide concrete steps. Mia tossed the ball toward Leo for a simple warm-up. The ball bounced, struck a metal bench, then rolled between bars. It disappeared inside the locked stadium, far from their reach. Leo shook the bars; dust drifted but nothing moved inside. A forgotten maintenance cart stood nearby, holding a long broom. Mia slid the broom through the gap to push the ball.

The broom bumped a hanging cord; loud speakers crackled overhead suddenly. That surprise echo amazed a flock of pigeons resting above. Wings flapped, knocking popcorn boxes down the empty rows. One box landed beside the ball and sent it rolling. The rolling ball touched the broom head and bounced outside. Mia caught it before it reached the street drain. Leo lifted the broom like a bat and grinned. They walked toward a nearby park to continue their exciting practice. Behind them, a last popcorn box spun slowly on the steps. Mia tossed the ball in the air and followed.

ほうきが吊るされたコードに触れ、突然スピーカーが大きく鳴った。その不意の音に驚いたハトの群れが上で羽ばたいた。翼がはためき、ポップコーンの箱が空の客席を転がり落ちた。ひとつの箱がボールの横に落ち、ボールを転がした。転がるボールはほうきの先に触れ、外へ跳ね戻った。ミアはそれが街路の排水口に届く前につかんだ。レオはほうきをバットのように持ち上げ、にっこりした。二人は近くの公園へ歩き、わくわくする練習を続けた。背後で最後のポップコーン箱が階段の上でゆっくり回った。ミアはボールを空中に放り上げ、そのあとを歩いた。
