Sam kneeled on the carpet. A glass marble shone near the back wall. He wanted to pick it up. The marble slipped farther and rolled behind the iron stove. Soft morning light rested on the carpet. A cozy room surrounded him with simple wooden furniture. Warm air rose gently from the nearby fireplace. Sam stretched his arm but could not reach the gap.

He pushed one piece of furniture for better space. A small chair scraped across the wooden floor. The chair bumped a low table. The table shook, and a rubber ball bounced down. The ball startled a playful cat near the fireplace. The cat leaped, knocking a cushion onto the stone hearth. Sparks stayed inside, yet the cushion now blocked the fire. Sam hurried, lifted the cushion, and set it back. He then slid a long wooden spoon behind the stove. The spoon touched glass; the marble rolled toward his hand. Sam caught the marble and placed it on the table. He closed the stove door.
