Morning light rested on the old stone path beside a tall oak near the university fountain. The air smelled of wet bark and fresh paint; distant bells echoed between glass walls. The oak has shed thin twigs onto the path, and tiny drops still glistened on them. A gray squirrel paused on the lawn, nose twitching toward a dark blue backpack balanced on a wooden bench. A curved patch with bright global shapes covered one side of the pack, and a faint nut scent drifted through its zipper line. The squirrel’s body lowered, tail flicking. A jump carried it across the grass and onto the bench, yet the bench surface felt smooth from a decade of students sliding across it.

A sudden gust rocked the backpack sideways and forced the squirrel to grip the fabric with sharp claws. The closed zipper blocked entry, and the swinging weight denied stable footing. Another force joined the struggle when a slow bicycle rolled too near; its front wheel struck the bench leg and jolted everything. The jolt popped one mesh pocket open, and a single peanut slipped out. The squirrel sprang down, hind paws landing on soft grass that showed clear well-being through deep green color. It caught the rolling peanut before it reached a drain grate, then hurried beneath a low shrub. Leaves settled, the bicycle moved on, and the backpack lay still again under the wide sky.

清晨的陽光灑在大學噴泉旁的舊石道上，高大的橡樹邊。空氣帶著濕樹皮與新油漆的味道，遠處的鐘聲在玻璃牆間迴盪。橡樹一夜掉下細細的樹枝，枝頭的水珠依舊閃亮。一隻灰松鼠停在草地上，鼻尖朝向長椅上的深藍背包抽動。背包側邊縫著鮮豔地球圖樣的圓形布章，拉鍊縫隙裡飄出淡淡堅果香。松鼠身子貼低，尾巴抖動；它一躍穿過草地跳上長椅，卻發現長椅因十年來學生滑坐而變得光滑。

突來的陣風把背包甩向一側，松鼠用利爪抓緊布料。緊閉的拉鍊擋住入口，搖晃的重量也難以立足。此時又有另一股力量加入，一輛慢速的腳踏車太靠近，前輪撞上椅腳，整個椅子猛然一震。震動掀開一個網狀口袋，一顆花生滾了出來。松鼠縱身跳下，後腳落在顏色深綠、顯出健康狀態的柔軟草地上。它在花生滾進排水孔前接住它，隨即鑽進低矮灌木。葉片安靜落定，腳踏車騎遠，背包又靜靜躺在寬闊天空下。
