English 원문
Mira had collected thin glass circles from broken bottles all winter. With sandpaper and patience, she had shaped one clear disk that might serve as a simple telescope lens. Evening light spread across the courtyard, and the planet visible near sunset already glimmered like a small torch in the pale sky. To test her lens, she needed the flat roof above the workshop. Only a narrow gap separated her balcony and the roof, yet floorboards on the balcony shifted under her boots. She steadied herself, measured the distance again, then bent her knees to take the leap, the lens wrapped safely in cloth inside her pocket.
Mira landed, but the plank she had placed for balance wobbled. She set the lens on a stone chimney, then pressed both palms against the unsteady board. Cold wind rose above the nearby trees, rattling loose tiles. For a few heartbeats, nothing except rustling leaves and distant kitchen pots reached her ears; faint smoke mixed with orange blossom drift rounded the corner and brushed her cheek. She returned to the board, slipped wedges beneath it, and tried again. The first alignment failed when the lens fogged. She rubbed the glass with her sleeve, angled it toward the celestial speck, and watched the image blur once more.
A sudden gust rolled across the roof, lifted the cloth from the chimney, and sent the disk skittering. Mira lunged. The glass bounced, paused at the roof edge, then tipped into open air. Her pulse pounded, yet a loose clothesline caught the disk mid-fall; the line had been stretched between windows by a neighbor that morning. The lens twirled like a coin and came to rest inside a hanging basket of herbs. For a shining moment, sunlight struck the disk and painted scattered dots over the courtyard walls. Mira crouched at the edge and wondered how many tiny planets danced inside those moving sparks. She climbed down carefully, recovered the disk, and wiped away dust. The lens rested on the windowsill, cold but whole.
