Soft morning light covered the wooden pier today.

Milo walked beside his grandparent toward the small rock pool. He wanted to place a painted stone on a flat rock. Waves rolled in and out across the pool entrance. At first, the water seemed too deep every moment. A quiet discussion from nearby fishers drifted over the water. He watched the surface for a while. Earlier, a wrong step soaked his sock, a clear mistake. The level dropped for ten quiet seconds, then rose again. This pattern repeated in a gentle rhythm from the sea.

Milo counted each cycle and waited for the low point. When the water pulled back, he stepped onto the bare sand. His shoe pressed the sand, and the painted stone touched rock. That small push shook a loose shell hidden under the edge. The shell slid downward, nudged a clear jellyfish into motion. The jellyfish drifted out with the returning wave toward deeper water. Milo turned and reached dry boards before the wave returned. His grandparent tapped the rail softly, and water splashed below. Another wave hissed across the sand, following the fresh trail.
