The Shard That Changed Color-

English 원문
Every low tide, a pale shard of ceramic lies half buried beside a barnacle-spotted stone; this morning, the shard glints with a faint violet swirl. Around it, cooled air drifts from the retreating sea and draws thin streamers of steam from sun-warmed mud. Dina steps down the narrow plank path she laid over weeks, pausing when her boot sole slides on fresher algae than usual. Not once has the shard shown color before, yet here a lilac trace spreads across its glaze like a distant nebula caught on pottery. A draft moves over her wrists, and gooseflesh rises beneath rolled sleeves.
Dina crouches, letting her knees sink just enough for balance. Heat from the early sun bakes the plank behind her, while a chill lingers where shadow still covers the shard. At the juncture of warmth and cold, droplets gather, then vanish with tiny pops. She brushes sand away, pauses, then pulls back as a bewildered crab scuttles from beneath the fragment and slips into a runnel. The shard remains stuck; the clay bed clings as though unwilling to release even this small piece. Tales claim a traveling savant once mapped every ripple of the flat, noting where clay grips tighter than sand—yet the grip here feels new, as if the ground learned another trick overnight.
Only after the tide slackens further does she curl her fingers around the shard and tug. The surface yields with a quiet sigh of released suction, yet a darker stripe of mud slides in to fill the gap, threatening to swallow her boot heel. Dina shifts weight to her other foot, cold ooze climbing the leather. A dilemma tightens across her shoulders: keep drawing the shard upward or steady herself first. She chooses the lift, and the object rises cleanly, revealing its underside—an opaline glaze veined with concentric rings, no ordinary crockery at all. Water, suddenly unpinned, snakes through the new channel and fans toward a cluster of whelk shells she had hoped to examine later, leaving them in murky swirls.
Breeze strengthens, warmth slipping away; the violet swirl deepens until it mirrors bruised sky above distant water. Mud now loosened, her path back feels uncertain. Her earlier tug solved the shard’s stubborn grip, yet the released water buried the shells, and with them the day’s quiet catalog of textures. Boots sucking free one step at a time, she retraces toward the plank. Halfway, she stops, shard balanced on her palm, edges cooling fast. There, on the same stone that first held it, lies another sliver, thinner, already drying in sunlight; so thoroughly had the larger piece covered it that not once did she register its presence. Fingers still mud-specked, she places the recovered shard beside the unnoticed twin.
