He gripped the narrow neck and tugged hard. At the same moment, a spotlight on the far wall blinked awake. A motor under the lamp turned a unique purple gel in slow circles. The shifting light sent wandering beams across ropes, boxes, and the tall vulture costume hanging from a hook.

Shadow and glare met on the floor like striped water. The raccoon dragged the bottle toward a darker corner. His ears stayed forward while the light kept roaming. The beam slid over a cracked mirror and bounced straight onto the glass in his paws. White glare burst outward, refracting into narrow ribbons that raced up the hanging curtain. The flash made him jerk back, and the bottle rolled onto the stage apron. The bending light discovered a hidden shape: gears stitched in silver thread across the faded fabric. Thin threads across the curtain glittered suddenly, brightly. Even the lazy colored wheel paused in its rhythm, its colors now split by the glass curve. The raccoon crouched, nose twitching at the shifting rainbow, while the spotlight kept turning. Stripes of violet and green crawled over the wooden floorboards. The bottle rocked gently in place, its curved side still catching new angles of light.
