The Escaping Marbles- 適合初級的英語短篇故事

Delia placed a narrow board onto a low garden cart.

She wanted to carry a dozen maple blocks up the short hill.

The cart stood beside her mentor, a patient village carpenter.

Morning light filled the small yard.

Delia lifted the first block, but the board rocked sideways.

The block slipped, struck the cart's wheel, and pushed the whole load.

The cart rolled downhill, pulling the long board after it.

The board hit a barrel, and a dozen nails spilled out.

The nails bounced, tapped a stack of wooden marbles on a shelf.

Gravity tugged the marbles, and they streamed across the yard.

The rolling beads knocked over a bucket of thin glue.

The glue spread, slowing the small spheres one by one.

Delia dashed forward and lowered a canvas bag into their path.

Most of the marbles dropped inside, ending the quick tumble.

Two final marbles spun inside the soft bag near her knee.
