English 원문
She pushed the narrow wooden door inward and stepped under the stone arch, cool air licking her cheeks. A square linen placemat lay abandoned on the tasting bench, its fibers darkened by overlapping rings. Hardly had her boots cleared the last stair when a stripe of crimson on the nearest barrel drew her gaze. The scent of tannin mingled with damp earth and a faint note of sweet rot, more inviting than alarming, as though time itself exhaled from the oak. Light from a single bulb fell in uneven stripes across stacked bottles; dust glittered, then disappeared again. Somewhere deeper, water dripped slowly, ticking against stone like a metronome that had lost patience.
She inched toward the barrel, letting her fingertips trail along the cool cradle until the sticky trickle reached her shoes. Each seeped droplet joined a narrow trail that crept toward the bench, threatening the books she left there yesterday. If the barrel were any lighter, one hand might have served, yet she needed both arms to maneuver its swollen weight. She braced her shoulder against the wood, then paused; hesitation lingered in the cold air as the drip quickened. A small houseplant in a clay pot stood on the floor, waiting to be carried upstairs for spring light. Its moist soil released a fresh scent when she slid it aside with her boot.
At last she angled the barrel just enough to lift the leaking seam above its own liquid line. Wine stopped bleeding from the wood, yet the sudden tilt sent a thin gush across the rim. A scarlet ribbon leapt onto the waiting placemat, spreading fast across the broad linen. What stopped her from wrenching the barrel farther was the fragile pot she had wedged inadvertently beneath the cradle. Soil shifted under the uneven weight, and the stem wobbled, slender roots exposed to the cellar chill. No sooner had she arrested the barrel than the drip resumed, softer now, but persistent. Pressure eased in one corner only to surface in another, as though the cellar refused a single tidy solution.
With soil still clinging to her palms, she brushed the edge of the stain that had first caught her eye. The liquid felt thin, almost watery; when she sniffed her fingertip, metal and rain overwhelmed grape. The surprise uncoiled slowly: the damp ceiling, not the barrel, was quietly bleeding above. Rust-tinted rainwater had slipped through a faint seam in the stone and borrowed color from the hoop before sliding down the oak. She straightened, hearing the renewed drip strike the bench in a steady cadence again. Accepting the trade she had triggered, she lifted the sodden placemat, its once-neat pattern now blurred, and hooked it on an iron peg near the stair.
