Olive pressed inward; the rim narrowed, yet a slow tilt survived like a stubborn twig caught in running water. Their first gain erased half the sway, still leaving a visible hurdle: the silhouette wobbled one finger-width each rotation. Vera dipped the sponge, grey water gleaming, and flicked two drops onto the spinning crown to soften the surface.

The added moisture let the clay slide more smoothly, and their thumbs drove the mass a millimeter nearer the center. Still, a faint shadow flickered around the rim, proof that the lump refused to surrender entirely. Vera tapped the foot pedal; the speed rose, and a halo of water was being drawn outward by the disc. Droplets flew past the glare and splashed against the tool jar. They trickled down the jar’s side into a shallow groove in the splash pan.
