Ribbon Loosened on a Gust-

English 원문
A muted ding drifted from the kitchen timer, followed by trays gliding against metal rails. Janet braced her elbows against the cool packaging counter, fingers flexing while she listened carefully to the soft scrape of ribbon teeth beneath the spool. She wanted a neat bow for her box of lemon twists. Xavier, already beside her, steadied two smaller boxes against his ribs; he aimed to keep their lids closed during the bicycle ride home. Both reached for the single roll of wide satin ribbon that had been threaded through a plastic guide earlier and was now wedged tight. Xavier set the boxes down, gave the ribbon a tug, then stopped with a pause for thought when it refused to move.
Janet pinched the ribbon between thumb and palm, felt the tension, and released it in rhythm with the timer’s next ding. The slack shifted by a finger-width. If the spool turned freely, packaging would finish in seconds, yet timing now mattered more than force, so she waited for Xavier’s signal. On his next exhale they tugged together; the ribbon slid a little, then a gust swept through as the entrance swung open. A paper napkin lifted from the nearby sample plate and set sail across the tiles, brushing Xavier’s ankle before coming to rest under the cooler. Their sudden laugh rocked shoulders and loosened grip; the ribbon unspooled enough for both boxes. Sugar dust from the disturbed plate drifted over the counter, speckling the surface like a tiny treasure map.
Janet folded her lid, then tilted her wrist to sprinkle the stray sugar onto her pastries, remembering the shell-shaped cakes inside and whispering through action alone that she still needed space. Xavier copied her angle so the second ribbon length arched clear; together they seemed to gather shells into cardboard coves rather than pastries into boxes. They tied knots, trimmed ends, and slid aside at the same moment, leaving an open lane for the next customer. Outside, a sparrow hopped onto the bench and pecked at a drifting sugar flake.
