She had been sketching the shaded half earlier, and the darker surface had evolved into sharper reflections under her careful watch. When she leaned forward, both shadows merged, and the luminous rim halted, its quiet hiss replaced by a flat silence. They traded places; Jonas now faced the sunny side, Dawn the cool shade. His first strokes skittered again, so he flattened his palm on the stone to lift his elbow, a small adjustment that allowed light to pour over the meniscus.
