Plip plip, roof water drips.
Dante stands by a big puddle.
Three round pebbles rest on mud.
A wet party hat drifts near.
Dante walks to the wooden step.
He picks pebble one and wipes it.
He places it on the dry edge.
He picks pebble two.
It slips.
Big splash.
Ripples echo round his boots.
He bends down.
He grips a flat stone.
He slides the lost pebble back.
He sets pebble two beside pebble one.
He lifts pebble three and adds it.
The grown-up in the doorway smiles.
"Here is another stone," they say.
They hand it over with a quick hug.
Dante sets this stone last.
Now four pebbles form a straight row.
The wet party hat bumps the grate.
It spins away.
The puddle surface stays calm again.
The grown-up laughs, "Rain this year plays music."
A roof drip lands beside the row and taps.
