Wax Spill and the Shifting Drying Frame-

English 원문
Soft cotton pressed against Willa’s thumb as she pinned a fresh square to the wooden frame beside the small brazier. The damp fibres carried a hidden tenderness, and their faint warmth balanced the steel-grey breeze that slipped through the dye yard. She dipped the bamboo stylus into the copper cup; liquid wax streamed in a thin line, then slowed as the wind cooled the tip. A tap on the pan revived the flow, leaving a vivid path across the cloth. Patience lived in the slow drip that followed; each drop hardened in seconds, its surface turning dull like frost-white glass.
A sudden snap of pegs cut across the courtyard. One half-dyed strip on the oxidation line swung free, the gust tugging it toward the wash stream. “Careful!” Clyde at the neighbouring frame called, his voice sharp but brief. Willa hurried five paces, caught the cloth before it touched the wet flagstones, and rehung it. If the wind rose again, the loose cloth would lift once more, so she added an extra peg. Returning, she found the stylus had been left resting on the frame edge; wax had cooled inside it, and a small golden spill glistened on the cotton. As she lifted her sleeve, the fabric brushed the stylus, sending it rolling across the table. The slender rod struck a drying frame leaning nearby; the wooden leg shifted, and a low quarrel of pegs clacked along the stretched pieces.
She slid a spare bamboo peg beneath the tilting frame, halting the drift before any cotton sagged. The wax line now bore an unintended ridge where the spill had pooled, so she traced new shapes around it, turning the flaw into a cluster of soft-edged leaves. By evening, long after Willa and Clyde had folded their tools, the yard lay quiet. Empty frames stood in neat rows, and the cooled wax gleamed under pale lantern light while deep-blue cloth hung motionless across the line.
